WHO: 3 More Deaths from New SARS-Like Virus by VOA News The World Health Organization (WHO) says three more people have died in Saudi Arabia from a new SARS-like coronavirus, bringing the global death toll to 30. A WHO spokesman said Friday Saudi Arabian officials confirmed the three deaths. He also said a new case has been reported in that country, bringing the global total to 50 including the fatalities. The new case was reported in the eastern province of Al-Ahsa. The new coronavirus was discovered last year. Two-thirds of the confirmed cases have emerged in Saudi Arabia. Cases have also been reported in other Middle Eastern countries including Jordan, Qatar and Tunisia, and in Europe. Earlier this week, a 65-year-old man died in France, the first person in that country to succumb to the virus. The virus, which can cause coughing, fever and pneumonia, can be passed between people in close contact. Another coronavirus, widely known by its acronym SARS, killed almost 800 people in 2003. It originated in Asia but turned into a global epidemic. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/who-three-more-deaths-from-new-sars-l ike-virus/1672145.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/who-three-more-deaths-from-new-sars-like-virus/1672145.html
