Myanmar Officials Consider Postponing Elections by VOA News Myanmar election officials are considering whether to postpone parliamentary elections scheduled for next month due to recent national disasters. The election commission met Tuesday in the capital, Naypyitaw, and discussed the idea with several political parties, including opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy. An NLD official told VOA's Burmese Service that his party was the only one that objected to postponing the November 8 vote. Dozens of people have been killed after several weeks of flash flooding and landslides in northern and western Myanmar. The NLD official says the election commission wants to gauge public reaction to the idea before it makes a final decision. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/myanmar-officials-consider-postponing -election/3003615.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/myanmar-officials-consider-postponing-election/3003615.html
