                   US Economy Gains 292,000 Jobs In December

   The U.S. economy had a net gain of 292,000 jobs in December, a sign
   that the world's largest economy is growing at a solid pace.

   Friday's report from the Labor Department says the unemployment rate
   held steady at five percent for the third straight month.

   The solid employment data may ease worries about the economy's health,
   and make it more likely that the Federal Reserve will continue
   gradually raising interest rates.
