China's 2015 Economic Growth Finishes at Weakest Point Since 1990 by VOA News China's economy grew 6.9 percent in 2015, the slowest full-year growth for Asian economic powerhouse in 25 years. The figures released Tuesday by the government's National Bureau of Statistics are the worst since the 3.8 percent reported in 1990, when China was dealing with international sanctions imposed after the deadly crackdown of pro-democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square the year before. The bureau also said China's economic growth slowed to 6.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, down from 6.9 percent posted between July and September, and the weakest since the first quarter of 2009. Analysts expect China's growth in 2016 to continue to slow. The year-end figures only just missed policymakers' target of around 7 percent full-year growth for 2015, a fact that may ease investors' concerns as Beijing struggles to move from an investment and export-driven economy to one driven by consumer-demand. Markets in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Australia enjoyed modest gains in afternoon trading Tuesday on the news. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/china-weak-economy-/3152312.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/china-weak-economy-/3152312.html
