US Puts Sanctions on 3 Top al-Qaida Members by VOA News The U.S. Treasury Department has announced new sanctions on three Iran-based senior al-Qaida leaders accused of fundraising for the terrorist group. Faisal Jassim Mohammed Al-Amri Amri Al Khalidi, Yisra Muhammad Ibrahim Bayumi and Abu Bakr Muhammad Muhammad Ghumayn were named by the Treasury as "specially designated global terrorists." The statement described Khalidi as a senior al-Qaida official and former battalion commander with links to the Pakistani Taliban, Bayumi as a veteran member of the terror group reported to be involved in freeing al-Qaida members in Iran, and Ghumayn as a senior al-Qaida leader who has served financial, communications and logistic roles for the group.
