                 8 Egyptian Police Killed in Ambush Near Cairo

   Unidentified gunmen killed eight plainclothed Egyptian police officers
   in an attack just outside Cairo, in Helwan, Egypt's Interior Ministry
   said in a statement Sunday.

   According to the ministry, the gunmen, who were in a small pickup
   truck, pulled up to the policemen's car, got out and opened fire before
   fleeing the scene.

   While no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack,
   jihadist groups have routinely killed hundreds of policemen and
   soldiers in similar attacks in the Sinai Peninsula and also near Cairo.
