US Destroyer Again Targeted by Missiles Off Coast of Yemen by VOA News Multiple missiles fired from Houthi-controlled Yemen again have targeted a U.S. warship in the Red Sea, U.S. officials said Saturday. The incident took place late Saturday or early Sunday local time. The USS Mason was not hit, officials said. It was the third time this week that the destroyer and other U.S. ships had been targeted off the coast of Yemen. The U.S. military on Thursday struck three radar sites in Yemen in response to missile launches from territory controlled by Houthi rebels. A Pentagon statement said the destroyer USS Nitze launched Tomahawk cruise missiles at radar sites along Yemen's Red Sea coast, north of the Bab-el-Mandeb strait. The statement said destroying the radar sites would degrade the attackers' ability to track and target ships in the future. Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook described the strikes as "self-defense" measures taken protect U.S. personnel and ships. VOA's Steve Herman contributed to this report.
