Qatari cameraman shot dead in Libya ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 13, 2011 Original URL: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Qatari_cameraman_shot_dead_in_Libya A Qatari cameraman who was working for the ''al-Jazeera'' news network has been shot dead in Libya. Ali Hassan al-Jaber was ambushed while working with his team in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi. Jaber was shot and rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. A second ''al-Jazeera'' journalist was injured in the attack. The team Jaber was with had been working for the ''al-Jazeera'''s Arabic service. They returned to Benghazi after reporting on an opposition protest at a nearby town. The group was driving to an interview when their car was attacked by gunfire. Sources at ''al-Jazeera'' claimed that they were "lured" to the interview. The director general of ''al-Jazeera'' Wadah Khanfar paid tribute to Jaber at the networks media forum. He said "He was one of those people who lived and eventually died in the pursuit of truth. We are determined to carry on regardless. We cannot sacrifice our lives except for noble causes. There is no nobler cause than the pursuit of truth." Jaber's shooting is the first death of a journalist in Libya since the start of the uprising on Feburary 15. ==Sources== * http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/13/al-jazeera-cameraman-lured-into-trap-gaddafi-libya * http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/12/501364/main20042496.shtml .
