March 11, 2020 ------------------------------------ Hello, gopherspace! I'm glad that you're somehow reading this, here in this tiny corner of the internet. I'm slothbear, a dude in his late 20s who is still trying to figure his shit out. I've made money fixing musical instruments for most of my adult life, but I'm looking to pivot to another field and get some real money and resources while the getting is still good, so that I can get some land in the country. Suggestions for job fields are appreciated. I'm a bit of a homebody with a variety of mostly-domestic hobbies. I love baking, mending clothing, cooking, reading, learning about Linux and FOSS more generally, and (of course) tabletop RPGs. Lately I've been getting really into fermentation; my recent projects involve baking bread with natural yeast (sourdough and raisin yeast water), pickling, and a steady bread kvass. I am a lapsed (read: fat) martial artist and am most proficient in Sanda (also known as Sanshou), a full-contact kickboxing+wrestling style of Chinese origin. I've also done traditional kung-fu and dabbled in Judo and MMA. I also have been getting back into writing music after a good while off. I am a leftist and am enthusiastic about Libertarian Municipalism (Communalism) in particular. I have leanings towards anarcho-communism, anti-statism, and anti-industrialism. I believe pretty strongly that humanity needs to scale back technology to more appropriate/convivial tools, and refocus labor on local production and autonomy. More on this to come in the RAVINGS section of this server. Philosophically I am strongly influenced by Laozi, Zhuangzi, Fred Rogers, Kahlil Gibran, and John Cage. Lately I've been fretting about COVID-19, which has several cases in the metropolitan area I live in. Today I've been working on this gopherspace and cleaning around the house. I meet my girlfriend's mom tomorrow, which I am a bit nervous for. Overall I'm quite excited though, it sounds like we will click well. I finished Ivan Illich's Tools for Conviviality today, which was a solid read that may turn into an essay for this space. Cheers y'all. ~slothbear .
