3-17-2023 - Quality time with the PowerBook 1400

Made just a few more refinements in the building out of my vintage Mac
home network.  We've been doing some general Spring cleaning around
the house, and it's been a great opportunity to dust off several of my
favorite Macs and get them all back up online and looking good!

I've spent some time recently with my PowerBook 1400 -- this laptop is
just fun!  It's a great-looking and small package, but it's the
upgrades that have made it so nice to use.  It has a 250Mhz G3
upgrade with 64MB of RAM, and as of this week, is running Mac OS 9.1
-- quite well, in fact!

I had once been able to use the internal, expansion-module Ethernet
card, but I recently needed to use my 3Com PCMCIA card instead to get
any working networking.  The driver provided by Cameron/Floodgap
worked great, but I was unsatisfied with the clunky Ethernet dongle,
so I decided to go back to the Orinoco Silver card.

Using an ancient 802.11b device like this had the unexpected benefit
of giving me the excuse to get the old Airport Express out, too!  (It
is #Marchintosh, after all)  In the end, I now have a great spot set
up for my PowerBook 1400, allowing for a permanent, uncluttered work
space for exploring this mid-to-late-90s-era Mac OS machine.

Had some real fun playing MP3s over AppleTalk when it was all set up!
