       Tandy Deskmate was an MS-DOS shell program created and sold by the Tandy 
       Corporation from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s.  It included productivity 
       software, dial-up networking, music and drawing programs.  Written in C and 
       assembler, it was very fast and very stable.
       
       I still use Deskmate to this day, as a distraction-free environment in a 
       couple of PCs and VMs.
