Yesterday I discovered my gopher server was not running. I'm not even sure for how long it had been down. So I whipped up a quick monitoring script that uses pgrep to check if the process is running, and if not, starts it and fires off an email. Not that Motsognir hasn't been stable until now - it has, but it seemed a good idea to check it periodically anyway. Perhaps it was an odd request that crashed the server, and now with the email alert in place, I'll be able to check the daemon log to see what may have happened.
