@HarneyB a bit honored I made a list, but ill.moe is my personal instance, and I'm not really in a spot right now to take on more users (aka to do actual moderation/administration beyond whatever bothers me, heh), sorry.

@missingno I want something where distributed projects are aggregated, if only by a link fashion, but I feel like you're right, too many people are going to go to the shit default of Discord because it's all they know.

I have been away from the internet at large the last few days. spent a lot of my free time reading Cypher System books and the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (3e). they make a great pairing, but it cannot be said enough how much I love the 3e FRCS --- I'd argue it is one of the best put together books WotC has ever produced, and a great "pick up and start a campaign" detailed setting. I've run it for 20+ years and still love paging through it.

just blocked a bunch of Facebook and Amazon scrapers that were hammering my personal Gitea like crazy, especially the Pleroma clone that no one has any reason to use, enough for it to stand out among all the other things my host is doing. self-hosting is soooo much fun sometimes.

@Tim_Eagon @phf I never owned the box set but is indeed quite good. my heart is with the 3e FRCS, though, for most quality bang for your buck.

@Tim_Eagon @phf prematurely hit send...I did recently pick up PDFs of Faiths & Avatars and the related books, however, which came highly recommended.

@Tim_Eagon @phf there is that, for sure. it suits me because I need set pieces and was never one for planned worldbuilding, so I gladly take what I need and leave the rest for later. there's still enough open space (literally and figuratively) for what I need, and then I just ignore all the multitude of kitchen sinks until/unless they come up.

"thanks" to Viva Aerobus's shit, I have been stuck in the airport system all day alone, just trying to get home to see my wife and kids, who made it through without me. this is the start of my Joker arc.

did not expect, but am not really surprised, that the most "ah, I'm back home" feeling I'd get was from sitting at my desk chair

I bought and used a real-ass analog radio to listen to a baseball game yesterday, and it got me thinking that some of my favorite protocols, interfaces, and so on are brilliant in their simplicity. I would write more about that if I had more time, but email and IRC are good, is my point.

it is possible, and indeed the case, for Patreon and Apple to both suck, just to be clear on my position.

the older kid was curious about an old bag of dice and started rolling them on the gaming table, and suddenly I noticed "oh! that's my original set of dice from '98!"

@grayson nice. I love dice. I have probably bought 50 sets of Chessex dice, plus other makers', over all the years. currently rolling one of those semi-precious stone sets from... somebody. picked them up at Gen Con a handful of years back.

the Google search widget on my phone, which was admittedly convenient and default so I never touched it, started showing me trending searches, which I do not give a single shit about, on my home screen, and I was so viscerally disgusted by the idea that I finally fired that thing into the sun and switched to the Firefox search widget (itself defaulting to Kagi). probably not Google's intended effect.a short story in enshittification

@timbray the question I still haven't found a satisfactory answer to is: where/how the heck do I buy a good dumb TV again?

I just finished Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster today and I must say, despite how notorious Final Fantasy II is for the audacity of its design, now that bugs and imbalances in said design are fixed in FF2PR, II is a considerably better FF than III. I think if you're picking the best version of each of the Final Fantasys, III is the weakest in the series.
