A few off the grid home will simply just utilize this method as is others choose to have more privacy and create sturdy structure that is built up to enclose the toilet. Once the bucket is filled the waste is added to your compost pile. Building your own compost toilet may not seem like the most enjoyable do it yourself project so you can just as easily purchase one.

METHOD 43 - Self Contained Compost Units-
Self-contained compost toilet systems can be purchased easily and if you build your own compost toilet it will typically be a self-contained compost system. When you are choosing to purchase a self contained unit you will want to be sure to get the correct size toilet that will be able to handle how often it will be used. This readily bought compost systems come with a variety of options and can cut back on the odor you typically get from a do it yourself version.
METHOD 44 - Centralized Units-
These compost toilet system act in the same way as traditional toilets. Just as the common toilet flushing the waste to and outside septic tank these centralized units pass the waste to an outside tank also. These tanks, however, convert the waste into usable compost. The liquid is separated and stored in an evaporation cell and the waste is broken down so it can be converted into a natural fertilizer. These systems typical will need a power source to help operate it and it will have to be manually turned using a crank of some sort on the tank.
