There are many type of dream practice. 1. Record and analyse your dream 2. Lucid dreaming observing 2. Lucid dreaming creating / exploring 4. OBE But it all start with a practice of awareness during the day, then during the night. It then helps writing your dream in a journal (or on gopher.) The first step is dream analysis. It has a many benefit, from emotional intelligence development to deep understanding of the self and healing of past trauma. The second step is lucid dreaming where you are aware that you are dreaming and letting the flow of the dream continue. This helps working with the symbolic of dream, and also help retain more information about the dream. The third step, the creative lucid dreaming is when you start doing things in the dream. In this state your 'dream body' is more 'solid.' You decide what you do and how you go about it. It's a place where you can do meditation practices, and it's an essential step for obe. Out of body experience are then easily attained once the lucid dream is under control. In that state there are many exploration that can be done. It's a deeper exploration of reality and will also offer a different perspective on the world around us. In Tibetan Dream Yoga, the goal is to practice for the moment of dying in order to be able to reach enlightenment at that point. In Shamanic dream practice, one of the goal is to attain a deeper understanding of the reality we live in and the other entities that populate our world that are harder to see in our waking day. It's also a path of power where teachings can be received in the dream world. In the yogic perspective, to be able to practice during your dream state helps develop a more solid awareness and give you a lot more time to focus on your practice. In the non-dual perspective, the dream yoga and OBE is simply an exploration on Conciousness. It helps with the Realization of the Self, and that we are all This, which exist within itself. A OBE is not a out of body, but simply an experience beyond the normal perception of our localisation in space and time. Different layers of awareness in the dream The different layers of awareness in the dream are interesting: - You can be unaware and not even 'in' your dream (it's like a tv show.) - You can be in the dream and unaware (you are the main actor). -You can be aware without being the actor (you know you are dreaming but it's more like a show) - You can be aware and being the main character. With strong awareness the dream will have a tendency to freeze just before waking up. In this moment everyone in the dream stares at you. - You can be aware but keep it subtle (the dream continue to develop and you can roam in it) - You can be aware and completely be in control of the dream. It's like minecraft in creative mode.
