I had a dream about a young girl teaching me about the scorpion asana. So I decided to get back into the scorpion. The scorpion is a reverse posture and a back bend at the same time. In order to be able to get back into it, I need to practice both aspect. The first step is to attain balance in the reverse posture. Headstand first, but to counter balance the headstand, shoulder stand is also needed. From the head stand, then I can move to the peacock feather. It's similar to the headstand but the head is not touching the ground anymore. Once you are in the peacock feather you're pretty much there for balance and inversion. You have to start on the back bend. Fish to start with, then the Bow. Small bridge, then bridge. Once you have a solid bridge, you can work your way to bring your hands toward your feet. When practicing back bend, it's important to balance the asana with forward bending postures. Keep in mind that we're often too much 'bent forward' in our days, so more back bend is good! So where am I at? We'll I just got back into headstand, and although I can be in a headstand, it feels quite shaky. Another posture to help in the process is the dolphin, which can help with shoulder strength. As far as back stretch, fish is okay, small bridge is good. My bow is really struggling, so I am lacking there. I'm glad I continued with Karate for the last few years, but I haven't been regular on more powerful yoga postures. I kept it to standing and balancing, but not a lot of reverse or back bending. Now that I moved into the guest room on top of the house, I do have more time and more space, enough to be able to have a consistent practice!
