We Know More about Cattle Feed than our food [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-01-03 Cover crop in my flower bed The University of MO has an article called “Mineral Supplements for Beef Cattle” that when I copied it into my database posted as 45 pages. Between charts, sources of minerals, and a list of important minerals, they give the reason for a number of minerals. They emphasize that many minerals co-exist to make each other available for the body of a cow. They touch on different ways to provide minerals and even touch on the differences between organic and inorganic minerals. I can still remember in the 1950’s when I was becoming a teenager on the farm, we had a salt block and a mineral block for our cattle to lick for minerals. Even back that far, we knew that minerals were important. I could go on about the fact that our pet food along with pig and chicken food has been researched more than human food. That may not be quite true. I write about minerals and their importance for the health of both plant life and human life and will be doing a complete series on these subjects in my columns on Daily Kos “Regenerative Agriculture” and ”You are What You Eat... “. I should have made the two groups on under the title of ”Healthy Soil=Healthy lives” as most of my articles relate to each other. You can’t have one without the other. This brings me to the reason for this story. I need some information which I can not find anywhere on the Internet and I am hoping that some educated person may be able to help me. I take a deep sea trace mineral pill on a daily basis. This pill is derived from deep water ocean sources and because of that, includes over 90 minerals that are also the same as in our blood. I know that organic minerals are absorbed by our body better than inorganic minerals. I know that many of the inorganic minerals are in the ocean because of water runoff from dissolved rock. My question is, are some of the minerals organic? Plants take up inorganic minerals from the soil and they convert these minerals into organic minerals. These organic minerals reside in the soil, and feedstocks, including residential, agricultural, and commercial waste streams and residue from non-living plants. As these minerals also are washed into the oceans in large quantities, can I then assume that many of the ocean minerals are organic? An answer with references would be appreciated. Thanks!
