The last sunset of 2022 Minus #2 Son, we spent the night out in the country. A few friends and family and a woozle joined us. I mostly pretended to be antisocial and got a lot of work done on my New Year's card. Here’s how it was looking the next morning: You may have seen this same image at KOS ART EXPO 2023 (New Year's Day). The rest of the gang got out the board-games. After midnight we all went outside and watched the neighborhood and neighboring villages set off fireworks. Well, the woozle darted straight back indoors. We weren’t all that close to the noise, but fireworks are a curse to fuzzy critters— even the distant pops were a bit much. New Year's Eve— I get a little flood of memories from years past. I don't recall doing anything special as a kid. Did I even bother to stay up that late? I remember the first New Year's I went out to a bar with a friend— uf, lucky to remember anything. How about bringing in 1993? The last New Year's at the apartment in the fancy neighborhood and the date the Slovaks left the republic. Mrs the Werelynx’s aunt cried. I think the year after that, Mrs the Werelynx and I took a train out to the family's place out in the country and bought a Roman candle on the trip. We still laugh about how anticlimactic it was. The first colored ball of light eased out of the tube and flopped onto the ground, the second managed to hop out ... and when the last ball launched, we swear it must have soared over five feet. When the lads were wee lads, we indulged in a bit of pyrotechnics. I’d buy some mortar-like launch tube with several big, colorful kabooms, and perhaps a few little fountains. These days, we're down to a dozen small sparklers. I'm kinda done with kabooms. First sunrise of 2023 It's back to work as normal for me this week. I found out that one of my students had the same condition that I'm still being entertained by— namely, facial nerve paralysis. I had a session of physical therapy this week. One nice thing about the sessions is that they get me downtown once a week or so. I was struck by the way the morning light was striking the buildings near the clinic. Today, I had only the one lesson to teach and a bit of shopping to do. Eventually I got around to working on the ol’ New Year's card again. I finally took the plunge and tested one corner of my elaborate linocut. This gives me a chance to see if my fiddly detail work might actually be printable and if any of what I'd thought completed, is. I always discover lots of things to improve. First partial test print I just might have it finished by February. Thanks for stopping by. This is an open thread.
