I fully understand the value, and also let me clear, doing so on a day like today — in the cold, heavy rain, heavy winds (45 mph) in the dark (0715 hrs) — they are a better man than I, Gunga Din. That said, whose bright idea was it to start this early in the pouring rain (limited visibility), in the dark when they could have waited less than hour later for some light (0745) and not on the sidewalks. Those lights they were wearing do not light up everyone and if hadn't braked when I did there could been a massive tragady as another car was coming at me in on the opposite side of the road as there were cars parked on both sides of the street further narrowing the available space. A couple of minutes and a few hundred feet up the road a group was pushing a baby buggy through the intersection was nearly broadside by an asshole who was too impatient to wait for the group to cross the street. They were seriously lucky. I have no clue who the organizers of this marathon were or are but they seriously, seriously need some massive retraining in Safety Precautions for holding marathons. I will not be surprised to hear of a tragedy from this, if not then they were just super lucky and used up a huge bit of their luck. Lady luck is going to need a nap after this one. As I noted above, this could have been delayed even just a half hour later and had sufficient light naturally available. Lighting up everyone with those Body lights is not sufficient when there is heavy rain and low visibility. No cause is worth the life lost from being careless and foolish when literally just a few minutes would have sufficed to ensure more safety. OK, rant is done, And they are still a better man than I, Gunga Din.
