When House Republicans profess concerns about the national debt but then threaten to force America to default on existing obligations by refusing to support an increase in the debt ceiling, many voters wonder why Democrats haven't mobilized to educate the American people about five basic but critical truths.

After all, many Americans may not know that:

The real reason to raise the national debt is to pay the nation's existing bills. While the insurrectionist Republican President was in the White House between 2017 and 2021, politically motivated Congressional Republicans voted three times to increase the debt limit without a whimper of protest. If Republicans were serious about reducing the national debt, they would repeal massive GOP donor-driven tax cuts in 2017 that fattened the pockets of major corporations and the wealthiest one percent at taxpayers' expense. Playing politics with the full faith and credit of the United States could very well catastrophically impact the financial stability of America, nations worldwide, and millions of hard-working families who keep our country running. The Republican threat to crash the U.S. economy and world economies if Democrats refuse to capitulate to GOP budget-slashing demands that would undoubtedly disrupt the lives of millions is a terrorist tactic, and Democrats should never negotiate with terrorists.

Suppose you put politics aside for just a moment, Mr. Speaker.

In that case, wouldn't you agree that In the interest of putting the desires, hopes, and needs of the people ahead of Republican cravings for power, privilege, and wealth, a nationwide campaign by Democrats to enlighten Americans on five truths about the debt ceiling would be good for them if not for you and your caucus?

Right?
