College degree requirement eliminated for most Pennsylvania State Jobs [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-01-24 PA Governor Josh Shapiro I didn’t see this get any play when it happened, so I wanted to call it out for the good of the group. PA Governor Josh Shapiro signed an executive order last Wednesday eliminating the four year college requirement for the majority of PA State Jobs, calling it an “arbitrary requirement”. “Today, we are making sure Pennsylvanians know that the doors of opportunity are wide open to those who want to serve our Commonwealth, regardless of whether or not they have a degree” said Governor Shapiro. “I want to make it clear to all Pennsylvanians, whether they went to college or they gained experience through work, job training, or an apprenticeship program: we value your skills and talents, and we want you to apply for a job with the Commonwealth.” Per news outlets, this means that 92% of state government jobs are now open to those with no college degree, equating to roughly 65,000 jobs. The remaining 8% of jobs are being reviewed to determine how best to streamline requirements. This is welcome news for many Pennsylvanians looking to serve the Commonwealth!
