I love books, they are like friends to me. They open my mind’s horizon; they keep me company. Since I learned how to read at 5 years old, a little girl in Costa Rica, I never asked for dolls on Christmas, only books. But this is not about me. I was reading this wonderful book by Pulitzer Prize Winner Anthony Doerr, named “Cloud Cucko Land”. It is wonderful!! It is fiction but very real. It touches the issue of reading and censorship. It describes how children discover the wonders of books that leads them to use their own imagination. Also, about nature. But at the center are books written many years ago by Homer and Diogenes. There is also the fear of homosexuality that a boy experiences. There is also the role of librarians in these young people.

I like Anthony’s Dedication of this book “For the Librarians then, now and the years to come”. In these awful times when books are being banned, I would not be surprised if this were. It is supposed to be for adults, however, had this book been published when my daughter who has always been an avid reader since she learned how to read at 4 years old were 8 years old, I would have given it to her to read.
