Hughley calls out Jason Whitlock's racist Fox News spot [1] ['Daily Kos Staff', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-01-31 Hughley then showed the various news coverage and videos of Nichols’ beating, focusing mainly on how “shocking” the videos are. “You know who wasn’t shocked by that? Black people,” the host said, “The only people who were shocked by that are people that haven’t been paying attention. But for us, that’s just like a flashback.” He then compared being shocked at the Nichols video to “watching a porno and going, ‘He’s going to stick that where?!’” Then Hughley launched into the response to Nichols’ brutal beating by Fox News—which, of course, blamed everyone except the officers. One Fox talking head claimed it was the fault of the abuse heaped on cops from the “defund the police stuff” so that “good cops” don’t want to enter the profession. Former ESPN journalist Jason Whitlock told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that the cops beating Nichols looked like “gang violence” and “what young Black men do when they’re supervised by a single, Black woman.” Whitlock, apparently sensing Carlson’s desperation to have a Black commentator malign Black people on Fox News, continued: “They’ve elected or put some Black woman in charge of the police force and we’re getting the same kind of chaos and disunity and violence that we see in a lot of these cities that are run by single mothers.” Whitlock was referring to Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis. “What the fuck is he talking about,” Hughley said. “If Jason Whitlock proved anything, it’s that you do not have to be white to hate Black people. And how can we expect Jason to see the plight of Black people when this dude can’t even see his own dick.” Hughley additionally interviewed Nichols’ family attorney and civil rights lawyer, Ben Crump. Tyre Nichols’ stepfather, Rodney Wells, is Hughley’s driver. When Hughley asked Crump about the speed with which the five Black Memphis officers were arrested, Crump said, “this is the blueprint going forward.” “They cannot say any more to us, whether the cop is Black or white, when you see them on video committing a crime, using excessive force against us that it takes six months, that it takes a year, no, you can’t tell us that anymore, because we’re gonna say, ‘Remember those five Black police officers in Memphis? Y’all arrested them immediately.’” Hughley asked Crump about a recent comment made by Rep. Jim Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, in which Hawley said he was unsure that any police reform could have changed what happened to Tyre Nichols. “I don’t know that there’s any law that can stop that evil that we saw that is just, I mean, just difficult to watch,” Jordan told NBC’s Meet the Press. “What strikes me is just the lack of respect for human life. So I don’t know that any law, any training, any reform is going to change. You know, they, this man was handcuffed. They continue to beat him.” Crump said he found it “troubling” when folks like Jordan “continue to see all this evidence that we have a problem with the culture of policing in America.” When Hughley asks Crump if he is shocked that the officers in the Nichols’ case are Black, Crump says he isn’t. Crump explains that it’s not the race of the officers that determines when they use excessive force, but the “race of the victim, often Black and brown people who bear the brunt of police brutality.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/1/31/2150317/--What-the-f-k-is-he-talking-about-D-L-Hughley-calls-out-Jason-Whitlock-s-racist-Fox-News-spot Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
