You see the mob takes the Fifth. If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment? Donald Trump Trump repeatedly took the fifth over 400 times with the NY Attorney General’s office on August 10, 2022, and was reported on by CBS News. We now have videotape after portions were released to the public today. The NY AG specifically told Trump not to discuss the proceeding in his civil fraud investigation with anybody but his lawyers; he did it anyway. CBS News has the story and video. Transcripts of portions of Trump's deposition were included as an exhibit filed by the New York Attorney General's Office on Oct. 13 in its $250 million lawsuit against Trump, three of his children and his company. Those sections of Trump's deposition were no longer confidential once the exhibit was filed. That office initially denied CBS News' request, under New York's Freedom of Information Law, for video that aligned with those transcript portions. An appeals officer reversed that decision. USA Today: After answering preliminary questions from New York Attorney General Letitia James, Trump used an introductory statement to characterize the investigation as a "witch hunt," an accusation he has repeated since the case was filed last year. The video confirmed that Trump used much of the deposition to invoke his Fifth Amendment right not to answer questions on grounds that he might incriminate himself. Trump said anyone in his position who did not take the Fifth "would be a fool, an absolute fool," according to CBS News, which first obtained the video. x BREAKING: Trump is now on video taking the Fifth Amendment. I thought “only the mob takes the Fifth.” Well that explains everything! pic.twitter.com/Z9LHnVG383 — Ed Krassenstein (@EdKrassen) January 31, 2023 From ABC News: Former President Donald Trump turned to New York Attorney General Letitia James and smiled briefly as she began to depose him Aug. 10, newly released video obtained by ABC News shows. The video represents the first time the public can see portions of the hourslong deposition that preceded James' $250 million civil lawsuit filed against Trump, his eldest children, his business and its top executives for inflating his net worth. Trump declined to answer most questions other than affirming he understood the ground rules and the procedures. When Kevin Wallace, the attorney general's senior counsel, asked what Trump did to prepare for the deposition he answered "very little." Like Ceausescu of Romania, Trump was defiant to the bitter end ( in the AG interview ).
