It is a simple HP, but like all laptops I have found it has one of the most annoying attributes relating to mousepad placement. The keypad is set up like all keypads since the dawn of the information age. The letter keys are to the left with numerical keys, that no one ever uses, on the right. There are a whole string of numbers from 1 to 0 right above the letter keys and that, with a little ingenuity, can cover every single digit known to math; including pi if you are retired and have the time on your hands. If you want or need a real calculator there is an app in your program list. Still, having a numerical key pad on the right, like some embedded 1970’s Texas Instruments calculator, is the way it has always been done and no one has bothered to question this. That is fine with me. I let them gather dust and just type away. But that is not why I am here. I am here to complain that just because laptops have to move the letter keyboard to the left of center of the laptop does NOT mean they have to move the mousepad to the left just to center it below the space bar. When I lay my geriatric fingers upon my laptop I center them on the laptop, not the letter keyboard. So what happens is that when I try to left click on something, which I will say is a lot more then I right click on something, all way too often I end up right clicking on what I am trying to left click on. This failure to center the mousepad on the laptop itself has led from mere annoyance to actually messing up what I was trying to do. Think having to re click on all the spam in my Yahoo mail folder, to loss of data, to losing that great deal at “some site with great deals.com.” For the love of god or goddess can someone in the tech industry please design a laptop with a mouse centered on the laptop and not the space bar? And this is your three minutes of Andy Rooney, if he was still alive and no longer typing on an old Remington.
