Southern California Gas announced that the $3.45 per therm price for January falls to $1.11 today and through out February. They want us all to cheer, but that $1.11 is still high as February 2022 was $.60 and February 2021 was $.36. Historic NG Prices in SoCal California residents who could be getting bills they cannot afford without giving up eating, the gas companies have agreed with the state to spread bill payments or refer people to various social service agencies to make a one time payment of people in needs gas bill. Social Services One-time Payment Gas Bill Forgiveness Program Personally, I can now get busy washing the big pile of clothes sitting in the middle of my garage floor. I wasn't going to use hot water or the gas dryer for clothes at $3.45, when I knew I had enough to get to February. My other gas savings tips, turning down temp of hot water, turning down the thermostat by 5 degrees, and turning off the heat at night, will stay in place. My expected gas bill for January actually dropped compared with December due to conservation. The gas company has an alert system that texts or emails anticipated bills, and you can monitor your usage by month, day, or even hour. At $3.45 per therm, it costs me $5.75 to heat my house from 58-60f to 65f first thing in the morning. Later this year, those of us who have gas heating, stove, dryer, hot water, BBQ, and fireplace (which I don't use), will be able to take advantage of rebates, and for some, tax credits, to convert away from NG.
