Cartoon: Shades of Gray [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-02 A story about colorblindness and Seasonal Affective Disorder Here’s a bit of history, a bit of indomitable human spirit and a bit of ha-ha for your viewing pleasure. Today’s comic was inspired by two things. First, a new issue of The Nib compendium landed in my mailbox. If you don’t know about this website and publisher, you should. They’ve been publishing political cartoons and nonfiction comics since 2013 from some of the best cartoonists on the planet. The latest issue is called “Color” and is dedicated to everything about colors or the lack of color. The issue inspired me to recall some stories about two amazing colorblind people from my past. The other inspiration is, of course, the Pacific Northwest winter. A time when the gray clouds overhead smother you like a wet blanket, waterboarding any sense of emotional color from your world for about six month out of the year. If you ever you move out here, you better learn to guzzle coffee by the gallon. After that run to the nearest department store and buy yourself one of those fancy “mood enhancer” lights to fool your brain into thinking sunshine is just around the corner. On the plus side, living here will have prepared you for any urgent study of bat caves or newly discovered catacombs.
