Republicans underestimated Hunter Biden, who is now threatening lawsuits, calling for investigations [1] ['Daily Kos Staff', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-02 Biden’s attorneys are asking for investigations into the Delaware computer repair shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac, former President Donald Trump’s ex-attorney Rudy Giuliani, Giuliani’s attorney Robert Costello, and Steve Bannon, "for whom there is considerable reason to believe violated various Delaware laws in accessing, copying, manipulating, and/or disseminating Mr. Biden's personal computer data,” CBS News reports. According to Lowell, the slew of letters "do not confirm Mac Isaac's or others' versions of a so-called laptop … They address their conduct of seeking, manipulating, and disseminating what they allege to be Mr. Biden's personal data, wherever they claim to have gotten it," Lowell told CBS News. The Post reports that Joe Biden was hoping to handle this situation more quietly, while Hunter Biden’s legal team has chosen a more direct and aggressive position. Hunter Biden’s attorneys are asking both state and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate the legality of stealing information from the laptop, circulating it, and even possibly making false statements to Congress about the information. “The actions described above more than merit a full investigation and, depending on the resulting facts, may merit prosecution under various statutes,” the letters obtained by the Post read in part. “It is not a common thing for a private person and his counsel to seek someone else being investigated, but the actions and motives here require it.” According to CBS News, a spokesperson for Giuliani, who was given information from the laptop and then spread it far and wide, called the laptop "abandoned property under John Mac Isaac's control." Mac Isaac has said that Hunter Biden dropped off the computer for repairs in April 2019 but failed to return to pick it up. He says he waited the requisite 90 days and then chose to turn it over to the FBI but gave a copy of the information on the computer to Costello. Much of the information was then distributed to Republican operatives who spread it around to the New York Post during the 2020 election—all in an effort to discredit Joe Biden.
