Note# 2 I pushed the fair use in this, but it’s promotional, newsy, & non-commercial. Note# 3 I have again included a poll to get reader feedback. Dem fundraising was record-breaking for the 2022 election cycle, which began in January ‘21. In the ‘22 election cycle, ActBlue brought in $3,463,499,800 . Right- that’s $3.46 Billion! In the 2018 midterms, ActBlue raised $1.663 Billion dollars. Compared to the 2018 cycle, total contributions and dollars raised doubled , and nearly 2.5 million more unique donors were part of the small-dollar movement. Small-dollar donations were the key, and the average contribution size was $40.05 in this cycle . Democrats were highly successful in the ‘22 elections. The Dem platform, the fundraising, and the voters converged for a very good electoral results nationally, despite a withering Republican attack- supported by a relentless and untrue narrative of a “Red Wave”. That narrative kept millions of expected Dem and Rep. voters on the sidelines in 2022. Despite outstanding efforts by the Dem Party and tens of thousands of activists, only about 114 million voters turned out in ‘22, vs 118 million voters in the 2018 midterm elections. Yours truly expected turnout to increase 8-12% in ‘22, so the suppression factor was extremely important. Yet we persisted! Two key areas of Dem wins need to be highlighted, namely 1) holding our Senate majority; and 2) defeating most Rep. candidates for Governor or Sec. of State positions who were election deniers. That was seen as highly important by most election observers. Also noteworthy is that although we lost our House majority, we won far more seats that expected for a midterm election. Small-dollar donations were the key, and the average contribution size was $40.05 in this cycle . Our voters were committed to change in ‘22. Small-dollar donors began the ‘22 cycle fired up about supporting Dem candidates and progressive causes. Candidates and organizations kept this momentum going throughout the cycle, engaging millions of small-dollar donors committed to power progressive movements and fueling change. Our motivation and determination helped power Dems to a l arger majority in the Senate , limit our House losses, and pull out pro-democracy victories nationwide, thereby drowning out the “red wave”. Spurred to Action: Big Issues drove big donations and intense voter interest. In the 2022 election cycle, small-dollar donors were motivated to act and support causes and candidates championing protections for reproductive rights, voting rights, democratic values, and progressive change. In fact, “In the 24 hours following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Org. ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, small-dollar donors gave $20.6 million, making it ActBlue’s largest day of the 2022 cycle by both unique donors and dollars raised outside of end of month deadlines”. Each successive year brings more campaigns, and more nonprofit organizations to the ActBlue platform. In the ‘22 cycle, over 7.4 million unique donors gave 86 million contributions to 27,305 campaigns and orgs., totalling $3.5 Billion. This is the fundraising that we can affect- the small-dollar fundraising ActBlue targets- rather than the PAC and corporate fundraising that can overshadow our efforts. In the big picture of fundraising , our $3.5 Billion effort looks small. Roughly $16.7 Billion was spent on US elections in 2022, and most of that was PAC and corporate donations. We are becoming more competitive in our Dem fundraising work. An extremely important for the future is can we continue to make record-breaking gains in fundraising through ActBlue in ‘23- ‘24 like we did in the ‘22 cycle!! For example can we raise $8-$10 Billion in the ‘24 elections?? Quite possible, but it’s also quite a reach!!
