Richard Nixon: The Largest Mass Murder in American History Today's Republicans Playing Catchup [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-04 Richard Nixon may or may not have been a crook, but he certainly was the largest mass murderer in American history. Yes Richard Nixon, belongs in the annals of history alongside Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein, perhaps only bested by Stalin and Hitler. And like all these strong murdering leaders like Putin, Nixon was willing to do it to his own people, for his own glory. In 1968 Peace Negotiations were underway between the Johnson Administration and North Vietnam. The campaign for the presidency was shaping up to be a blowout. This time instead of the Democrats winning by a supermajority as it had in 1964, it seemed Republicans would gain an easy victory. In late September the Republican Richard Nixon was ahead of Democrat Hubert Humphrey by 15 points in the polls. Humphrey was only seven points ahead of Independent Candidate George Wallace. On September 30th, 1968, Humphrey gave a speech calling for ending the bombing in North Vietnam. This had been a sticking point in peace negotiations which his boss President Johnson would not agree to until late October. Humphrey’s speech evidenced his quest for peace in Vietnam. Protestors against the war embraced him. At the same time, Wallace’s Vice-Presidential Nominee, Retired Air Force General Curtis LeMay, called for the use of Nuclear Weapons to end any war. Wallace dropped in the polls and Humphrey rose. Throughout the month of October Humphrey gained ground on Nixon. This was going to be a close election just like 1960. And the USSR wanted to help. The Soviets did not want Richard Nixon becoming president. Nixon had been Vice-President under Dwight D. Eisenhower. Eisenhower was the man who had first created the “Domino Theory” as to why America must oppose communism. In a speech April 7, 1954, just a few weeks before peace talks were to begin in Geneva, between the French and the Vietnamese, with the USA in attendance, Eisenhower stated in regard to Communism spreading: “You have broader considerations that might follow what you would call the ‘falling domino’ principle.” You have a row of dominoes set up, you knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is a certainty that it will go over very quickly. This would lead to disintegration in Southeast Asia, with the “loss of Indochina, of Burma, of Thailand, of the Peninsula, and Indonesia following.” The Soviet Union feared Nixon would be a virulent anti-communist, a follower of the Domino Theory. The Soviet Union then made an offer, in person, directly to Hubert Humphrey. The Soviets were willing, even eager, to involve themselves in In a United States election. They offered financial help, and any other conceivable help needed for a Hubert Humphrey win. When Humphrey politely declined the invitation, the Soviet Union pressured their ally North Vietnam to accept a cease fire and to conduct meaningful peace negotiations. Nixon in the meantime, having already lost one close election to Kennedy back in 1960, took matters into his own hands. The polls were tightening. The peace talks were appearing to become fruitful as election day drew near. Nixon did not want History to repeat itself. He interfered with the peace talks. Notes taken by H.R. Haldeman, Nixon’s, Chief Staff during the 1968 election campaign, prove Nixon was trying to disrupt the ongoing Peace Talks between the Vietnamese and the Johnson Administration. These notes were found in the Nixon Presidential Library. “In late October 1968, the two men connected on what came to be known as “the Chennault Affair.” Nixon gave Haldeman his orders: Find ways to sabotage Johnson’s plans to stage productive peace talks, so that a frustrated American electorate would turn to the Republicans as their only hope to end the war. “Keep Anna Chennault working on” South Vietnam, and also say: “Any other way to monkey wrench it? Anything RN [Richard Nixon] can do.” The notes also show Nixon wanted to have nationalist Chinese businessman Louis Kung also pressure (South Vietnam) President Thieu not to accept a truce. The notes indicate Nixon wanted his running mate Spiro Agnew to pressure C.I.A. director Richard Helms and that the campaign sought to get Taiwanese president Chiang Kai-Shek involved. Nixon promised South Vietnam a better deal if they walked away from the peace table now: “ Nixon agents—chiefly Anna Chennault—reached out to the South Vietnamese government of Nguyen van Thieu. The message: a peace settlement under a Nixon presidency would be more favorable to the South Vietnamese.” The day before the 1968 Presidential election in the United States, South Vietnam stunningly walked away from the peace table. Nixon was elected, winning the popular vote by 0.7%. Between January 1969 when Nixon took office and January 1973 when peace was announced, over 21,000 Americans were killed in Vietnam. 21,000 deaths not to protect our national security, but only to satisfy Richard Nixon’s ambition. Today, Donald Trump says he knows how to stop the Russia/Ukraine War. He says it’s easy, but he’ll keep it secret until he’s again elected President. The lives being lost are not of greater purpose than Donald Trump’s ego. But Trump is not the only one willing to sacrifice lives for his ambition. Josh Hawley is willing to sacrifice the nation to feed his ego. Kevin McCarthy sold the will of “We the People” to a small minority of Congress people, some of them seemingly illiterate to satisfy his political desires. All politicians have egos and ambition. Before now, none were willing to sacrifice our Constitution, our nation for their ambition. Before Nixon, none were willing to sacrifice the children of American Parents to satisfy their individual needs. It is a scary time to vote Republican, no matter the office.
