In Hinduism: Greed is the condition of the mind in which one is not satisfied even after gaining what one wants. Greed of course is the precursor of and the necessity for corruption. Once upon a time not so long ago, greed only hurt humanity on a somewhat localized level. Now, greed endangers our very biosphere, in other words everything we know. As such, it has become the deadliest of human traits, or the most perilous deadly sin, if you prefer. In Islam, it is “Haram” [forbidden]. As such, you cannot claim to be a xxxx religious country if you allow it to flourish, and flourish it has, it corrupts all. From democracy to communism, from Christianity to Hinduism, it is at the very heart of modern capitalism.
