Taliban Fighters Cope With the 9 to 5 Working World [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-05 Sabawoon Samim, at Afghanistan Analysts Network, has an interview with five former Taliban fighters, now living in Kabul. The interview seems to be striking a chord with readers, for the Talibs expressing their dissatisfaction with grind of the 9 to 5 (actually 8 to 4) workday world. x These researcher interviews with five Taliban fighters living in Kabul for the first time and adapting to life after victory might be the best thing I’ve ever read about Afghanistan https://t.co/7uMQH7Vwtn — Mitchell Prothero (@mitchprothero) February 5, 2023 Quick general summary: they think that Kabul is a beautiful city; they like the urban amenities; they like the parks and outings to Qargha reservoir. They don’t like the high rents, the traffic, and the crime of the city. Their propagandized notions that Kabul is full of decadent evil get challenged: I was of the idea that Kabul would be full of bad people, but to be honest, in the last couple of years, after we met some of the people living here, I realised I was wrong. The best moment, in my opinion, is after a Talib expresses his disapproval of having a woman in his computer class, but another Talib calls him on it. Another Afghanistan Analysts Network interview from a week ago, How Afghan women working for NGOs are coping with the Taleban ban, makes a good complement to this one.
