My mother’s family immigrated from the Ukrainian area of Imperial Russia in 1912. My mother was born in St. Louis in 1913. Her older sister was born 14 months older, in their home town in Russia. Our family was in the garment industry. My mother was also a fantastic seamstress and very talented artist. After my aunt passed away, I found that she still had my grandfather’s Singer in her basement, which I now have. This machine is electric, with a lamp. By the serial number, I fount the manufacture date of 1910. In the picture, you can see the lamp. I suspect it may be after-market. You will also see the wooden original attachment case, patented in 1889. It appears that I have all the attachments, also. Some of the original wiring was bad. I replaced the wire to the light and motor. Afterwards, I tested the machine, which now runs. I also have her Kenmore Sewing Machine from about 1960. It also runs and the case looks good, too.
