The Daily Bucket - Early Spring Cleaning [1]

Friday February 3rd, 2023 was the first clear and warm day after a week of truly nasty and dangerous weather. I figured a walk (around Lamar Park) would be a good idea. I was sure I’d find some good things. After our mission statement, I’ll let you see how right I was.

I usually walk to see what is hanging around the pond but thought (correctly) that the action would be along the wood boundary. Here’s the satellite view of the park. former golf course turned into walking park. There was a lot of movement to train my camera on. I can not tell you how excited I was to see Kinglet feeding and flitting about the limbs. Here are some stills I was able to get of these (naturally impossible to film) tiny fliers. I decided to turn the audio off on my camera because there were a lot of walkers and joggers on the path behind me. I must have been invisible to the people because they made no changes in noise levels or motion as they passed by. The birds didn’t seem to notice that I was sitting within 15 feet of them. Here are a few shots (and video) of House Finch that ignored me.

I spent another hour taking bad photos before heading to the parking lot. I have proof.

Believe it or not, there is a bird in that tangle.

A commotion on the pond gave me another chance at some birds cleaning up their act. Here is that short film.

Then I remembered I had better footage of the same pond and the same species doing the same thing. Here is the weird way that Canada Geese flip over to wash their backs.

Finally, I made it to the truck but one more bird had to say, “Come again soon”.

Spring is close and the time is nigh to get some cleaning done. What chores are facing you?
