That may be surprising given it’s well-known I’m a huge music lover, but truth be told, I forgot it was on last night until my social media feeds overflowed with posts and by that time it was half over, and I was exhausted. All the best parts from the ceremony are easily available the next day (minute, hour?) and I thought I’d catch up today. So much energy goes into those categories showcased in the Primetime Event that starts with the obligatory view of attendees arriving and walking the Red Carpet, and ends 25 awards and many musical performances later with the presentation for Album Of The Year. What you may not realize is that the vast majority of awards are given earlier in the day, at what’s known as the Premiere Ceremony (link to yesterday’s streamof the afternoon event here). So in case you missed it, tonight’s Top Comments will feature some of the music and awards from the Premiere Ceremony, which was hosted by Randy Rainbow. Let’s kick it off with the music that opened the ceremony: The awards began with Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. The winner, Encanto, also took home Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media and Best Song Written For Visual Media. Bringing you the song that you KNOW was the winner from that movie: While Harry Styles’ Harry’s House won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, it also won earlier in the day for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (a category a friend described as “where all of my friends get nominated :-)). Here’s just one song from the album: It’s a big big deal and so you likely heard about this, but Viola Davis won for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for her memoir Finding Me. Why a big deal? This Grammy win made her an EGOT. Lastly, a category dear to me because a friend made Good Trouble as part of a slate of 2021 nominees declining because the category contenders were all white, Best Children’s Album went to the Alphabet Rockers. Here’s their trailer for the album: I could go on all night, but we have The Tops to get to! Any wins or musical performances you’re especially happy about? Share them in the comments!
