Lead-ins for President Biden's State of the Union tonight [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-07 President Joe Biden takes a selfie with Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) after delivering his State of the Union Address to Congress in the Capitol on March 1, 2022 in Washington, DC. During his first State of the Union address, Biden spoke on his administration's efforts to lead a global response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, work to curb inflation, and bring the country out of the COVID-19 pandemic. (Photo by Sarahbeth Maney-Pool/Getty Images) We’re now halfway through the first term of President Joe Biden’s presidency, and tonight President Biden will give the second State of the Union address of his presidency at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be televised, carried by the major networks. Of course this necessitates an adjustment to the Tuesday primetime schedule. ABC will rerun the Will Trent pilot episode at 8 p.m. Eastern. Will Trent normally airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern. Good show, in my opinion. Then the State of the Union. There’s something odd about the ABC listing: “The State of the Union and The Republican Response.” It's like they’re giving the Republican response more weight than it needs, or deserves. CBS will rerun an episode of FBI at 8. Maggie goes undercover working in a bar to investigate an anti-government group that regularly gathers there and has several members suspected in a series of bombings. Wonder if any of those fictional terrorists wear red hats. Then after that rerun, CBS News: State of the Union 2023. Of course that will also include the Republican response. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-Arkansas) will give the Republican response. Wait, what, she’s a governor now? It seems like just yesterday she was press secretary for 2016 popular vote loser Donald Trump. Being press secretary for that guy was a job that required bold, brazen dishonesty. Supposedly, in her response to the State of the Union, Sanders will share “her extraordinary story and bold vision for a better America.” So, no whining about Biden’s supposed lack of leadership during the big Chinese spy balloon crisis? FOX actually has a new episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Then State of the Union. NBC has new episodes of Night Court and American Auto, then NBC News Special: State of the Union. And PBS has a new episode of Finding Your Roots, and then a special episode of PBS NewsHour for the State of the Union. Unfortunately, instead of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California) behind President Biden on the right, there will be Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California). That’s of course assuming the Republicans don’t decide to oust him tomorrow.
