Burt Bacharach has Died [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-09 I wish I knew where to begin. Burt Bacharach, composer of what was the soundtrack of my life died yesterday. He was 94. How do you sum up the life of a brilliant composer who, along with such lyricists as Hal David, wrote more hit songs dating back to the early 60’s than there are stars in the sky? You can’t. But, I will list a few of them: “Magic Moments”—Perry Como “Tower of Strength”—Gene McDaniels “Baby It’s You”---The Shirelles “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”—Gene Pitney “Make it Easy on Yourself”—Jerry Butler “Don’t Make Me Over”—Dionne Warwick “Wishin’ and Hopin”----Dionne Warwick “Blue on Blue”—Bobby Vinton “Close to You”---Carpenters “Wives and Lovers”—Jack Jones “Anyone Who Had a Heart”—Dionne Warwick “Walk on By”—Dionne Warwick “What the World Needs Now”—Jackie DeShannon “What’s New, Pussycat?” Tom Jones “Alfie”—Cilla Black “The Look of Love”—Dusty Springfield ...And, many, many more. I would be remiss if I did not give credit for the Oscars he and Hal David won for Best Original Song and Soundtrack for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. And, with that, I will close. What a terrible loss.
