Chile: Valpo Wall Art Revisited--again. [1]

Some of you who have been following my life saga know I go every year to Chile, since 2008. I’m currently there (here?) for the 14th time. The reason I come here is my son, my only child, and his two granddaughters live in Santiago. My son came here in 2005, started a sportsbar, rolled it into a successful restaurant, sold that out at the peak, right before the pandemic, and became owner of a Car dealership (Mazdas, Susukis, kias and used) and does real estate development. Don’t worry, he always votes Democratic.

So most of the time when I come to Chile I come to Valparaiso. This is the place I want to live. Its a funky old port town (400 years old) but it has a ton of charm to it. And for folks who have to live in modernity there’s a Miami Beach type of town—high rise hotels, etc— right up the road at the other end of the Metro. Its a big port but not Chile’s biggest—that’s in San Carlos 100 miles south. So it has a funky, workingman’s atmosphere, much like San Francisco when the docks were still going.

This was always the summer spot for Chileans, they even have their summer Capital here, the government moves here from Santiago.

I love this place for the atmosphere, the food and the art. Its like walking around in an open air art gallery---its everywhere. These photos don’t do it justice either. You can spend days walking around looking at it and not see it all.

Also posting a typical menu showing the food available—love it. 8990 is a little over $10. This is ala carte. You can get a full meal-- soup or salad, entree, dessert-- for about $15.

I have to go out now but will be back in a couple of hours to diary tend
