Let’s get into the discussion and clear up some misconceptions about reparations. Reparations aren’t made by transferring wealth from White hands into Black hands. Reparations are for accountability due to past atrocities and making sure such atrocities aren't repeated. I wrote about reparations last year. I’m still standing by those words I wrote last year. Here's an excerpt from that diary last year. It's about making amends for the inhumane atrocities cited in our history books like Rwanda, slavery, internment camps, eugenics, the Holocaust, the Inquisition, invasions of kingdoms, and the "assimilation" camps for the Indigenous people. I'll include the comfort women in South Korea, the Chibok girls, and victims of human trafficking. What makes this discussion infuriating is the misinformation and disinformation campaigns revising history, throwing legitimate discourse out the window. So does that mean reparations can't be made by the harms of racism? My answer is NO! Here are some reasons why reparations need to be paid. I wrote a diary about racism costing $16 trillion. It's about atoning for the atrocities committed and not repeating them. The reason so much opposition to reparations is continuing is fear. It's easy to oppose paying back monies for medical treatments given without the patients' permissions, killing of human beings, genocide, internment camps, human trafficking, slavery auctions, abuse, and more abhorrent acts when the acts happened years ago; it helps atoning for those egregiously cruel acts when the pockets are hit. Thank you for reading and Happy Black History Month!
