Murders and Suicides: The Hidden Curriculum in our Nation's Schools [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-10 It’s the problem in education these days. Administrators are afraid of parents and even though videos demonstrate beatings in hallways take place, all too often nothing gets done. We saw it Oxnard Michigan when a disturbed child drew what he would do, but parents dismissed it, and so did school administration. Four died. Teachers are caring individuals. They do their best to bring these matters to the attention of those whom are in positions to help. But as we saw in Newport News Virginia, someone must be shot, and in New Jersey, someone must commit suicide to avoid bullying before school administrators will act. The Lauren Boeberts of the world think they have the freedom to do anything, not realizing one’s personal freedom is limited. No one has the right to harm others, no one has the right to slander others, no one has the right to make others live in fear. And yet school administrators are living in fear: Fear of lawsuits. Fear from parents who believe their children are perfect. As a result parents live in fear, because their children attend school in fear, armed with bullet proof backpacks. Schools must be safe, for children, for teachers, for ideas. Anyone who thinks otherwise like the Boeberts and DeSantis’s of the world, need to be put in their place before more children die, unnecessarily. When chaos is the norm, kids still learn, but is this hidden curriculum what we want them to learn? In the meantime, parents of students in Newport News where a first-grade teacher was shot are suing the school district. The father of the child in New Jersey who committed suicide has stated he will sue the school district. The parents of students victimize in the Oxnard Michigan School Shooting are suing their school district. It is still true: It takes a lawsuit to make a school superintendent do their job.
