We didn’t manage to convince the studious college lads to join us, so it was just a romantic weekend for two. As we drove through the villages immediately preceding our own, we were briefly hopeful that we’d have enough snow to tempt us into clambering up the ladder to the loft to get the cross country skis down. In the somewhat sheltered yard outside the front door there was a patch of snow ... … that faded away even before we could have skied past the barn. After lunch on Saturday we walked down the road and up into the hills where there was at least enough snow to make for a crunchy hike over the meadows and though the forest. Mrs the Werelynx in her sky blue camouflage. a few meters further on and looking the other way— not a hint of blue in sight. One side of this little gravel road was a burbling little stream. There's a pretty hotel and spa built around the start of the 20th century. A nice place for lunch, but we'd already eaten. Looking almost like proper snow here. Heading back down you could really see the contrast between the snowy hill and the green valley below— although the distant hills somewhat to the south and east of us were snowless On Sunday we packed up earlier than we'd have liked. The weather was lovely. However, Saturday evening I'd cooked a beef stew that we'd planned to take over to Fabulous Mother-In-Law's place for lunch on Sunday. After lunch we went for a walk around her neighborhood. She showed us one of her favorite routes and we went past a spot that I'd forgotten about. The buildings are a bit different scale in her neighborhood, these pre-fab concrete tower blocks go up about 12 stories. What space they saved though is covered in lovely parks. This frozen pond is that favorite spot that I'd forgotten about. Thanks for stopping by. This is an open thread, and as usual I'll be popping in at odd times to check on things and make sure nobody has flushed the key to the liquor cabinet (again!). At least you've been thoughtful enough to unlock it first.
