IAN: February 12, 2023 - Not much going on in my life [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-11 I am finally certain I shook the cold. I have also paid my Portland Arts Tax for 2022. Exciting life I have, isn’t it. As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! ************************* Spanish recipes from The Guardian: they use pork and potatoes. Neanderthals cooked and ate crab. An article from The Guardian on how Neanderthals cooked. Local tribes mined copper near Lake Superior 6000 years ago. A recipe from The Guardian for vegan walnut and mushroom samosas. I’m not sure why vegan is emphasized, except maybe because it doesn’t use ghee. I don’t use butter when I make my faked up samosas, and they certainly would qualify as vegan — potatoes, frozen mixed vegetables, chopped onion, seasoned as the spirit moves me, made up using olive oil wrapped in wonton skins and fried using olive oil. They also bake well. I’ve been known to make up a half-size version of the filling and eat it for supper. A skeleton excavated in a dig at the York Barbican has been tentatively identified as Lady Isabel German, who died in the 15th century. Evidence indicates she was disfigured by disease and lived as an anchoress. Lab grown meat. Variations on the theme of pork for this story. ************************* I didn’t have breakfast or lunch on Wednesday. I had bacon. It’s been quite some time since I’ve had bacon. I like bacon, but I don’t usually want enough to cook it at home. I got my federal refund. I can’t even check on the state one till next Wednesday. It’s been two months and I still haven’t received the copy of The Linz Cafe that was supposedly shipped to me in December. I notified the company before looking elsewhere, and they gave me my money back. There was another copy available from a place in New York at about twice the price. I bought it. I’ve been reading Ilona Andrews lately. I’m almost done with the Kate Daniels books and related stories. Then, again, Celia Lake has a new one released on Friday — she sent me the link to Bound for Perdition on Wednesday, and I’ve already read it twice. There have also been, this past week, a couple of books out that I’ve been waiting on to read using my Kindle Unlimited account. To say I’m getting my money’s worth from that $9.99 a month is probably the understatement of the decade. And, it seems, having just released a Kate Daniels novella, the couple who are Ilona Andrews are working on a second one that will be out in June. ************************* Love you guys!
