This type of brain injury is caused by repetitive trauma to the brain and leads to the destruction of brain cells.” And the incidents of retired players committing suicide is growing. Then to add to this, the public is subsidizing an industry, a business that makes billions of dollars for the owners. in fact my tax dollars subsidize the building of stadiums for the NFL, a sport that I do not attend, do not condone, do not like and has no benefit for me. From Google: “More than half, or $1.2 billion, will come from taxpayers. Public funds diverted to help build professional sports stadiums and arenas have cost taxpayers $4.3 billion since 2000. While the NFL and team owners contend that stadiums provide economic benefit to a city, researchers claim it's otherwise.Dec 22, 2022” I live in Phoenix where the event will take place this Sunday and as I have been watching the local news these past several weeks the amount of air time devoted to the upcoming super bowl is over the top. Again a freebie for the sport and the NFL. And many of these pregame events are involving children. Talk about grooming? Bringing young children into these events assures the industry that as they grow up they will support a brutal sport that is debilitating to the athletes. They may become players in high school and college and then go on to play professional, carrying on the NFL tradition. And it’s all about money.
