Extinction [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-12 2023 is truly a story of good versus evil, and never have the stakes been higher. Many Republicans are still trying to deny Climate Change, Global Warming, a phenomenon which can cause a mass extinction of many species, and eventually our own. In Ukraine there is a war between a dictator and democracy, and again Republicans are on the wrong side of the argument. And in these battles between good versus evil, between survival and extinction, a hero has emerged: And his name is Joe Biden. Biden’s State of the Union address Tuesday Night was favorably received by 72% of the American people. OK, it was only one night, but it is clear his policies resonate. The Republicans are on defense, and they are squandering opportunity after opportunity as America hears from bigots, idiots, and frauds like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and Rick Scott. Russia is launching a new spring offensive, trying to gain control of a region of Ukraine before advanced American weapons arrive. It is reportedly not going well for Russia who have removed Aids Patients from prisons and put them on the front lines of battle. Russian citizens now know all the BS they had heard about superior Russian weapons is exactly that, BS. In Turkey earthquake victims are paying the price for corruption. As Heather Cox noted the other day: “empowering a strongman ends oversight and enables those in power to think of themselves as above the law. In the short term, it permits those in power to use the apparatus of their government to enrich themselves at the expense of the people of their country.” And those that supported Erdogan, donated to him, were rewarded by being allowed to build without having to meet code. The earthquake in Turkey demonstrated the ultimate effect of bribery to get around building codes. A few short years ago when Donald Trump was President of the United States, Democracy was under attack and dictators were gaining. Marine Le Pen almost succeeded in France, Bolsonaro maintained power in Brazil, Castillo in Peru, Brown shirts were seeking a comeback in Germany, and all are now being defeated. Even Erdogan inTurkey is facing anger from citizens who have realized the true cost of his rule. 2023 appears to be off to a good start. But we the American voters must be vigilant. It is our engagement, our money, that is enabling democracy around the world. Russia is now to weak to help Syria, or Iran. The United States is in position to pick off Russian allies Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, and what a great time this would be to reengage with Cuba. Maybe in Joe’s second term. When Ukraine builds it Mount Rushmore, it will deserve to have Joe Biden’s face on it. But truly it would be the face of the American people. We, who resisted Trump, we who Voted Blue are the savoirs of the the USA, Ukraine, and the world. It’s a heavy load, but I like it. We must make certain Joe gets a second term.
