Lies, Lies, and George Santos [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-12 It's no secret that Republicans have become more and more comfortable with lies in recent years. They've lied about everything from voter fraud to the Capitol riot, and now, they've found a new poster child for their dishonesty in Rep. George Santos of New York. Rep. Santos is the epitome of everything that's wrong with the modern Republican party. He's lied about his education, his work experience, his religion, and even the death of his mother. And yet, he still somehow thinks that he deserves to be taken seriously as a member of Congress. It's truly mind-boggling how Rep. Santos could believe that lying about his resume and his background wouldn't catch up to him. He claims that he's "human" and that he's "made mistakes," but the reality is that he's shown a complete disregard for the truth, and for the people he was elected to represent. And now, as Rep. Santos faces intense media scrutiny over his lies, he's trying to blame the local Nassau County GOP for his "embellished resume." He says that they wanted to create a "political spin" to hide their mistakes, as if that's an excuse for his dishonesty. But the truth is that Rep. Santos is solely responsible for his own lies. He's the one who claimed to have attended Baruch College and worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, when in reality he never set foot on a college campus and never worked for either company. He's the one who described himself as a "proud American Jew," only to later clarify that he's actually Catholic and only meant that he was "Jew-ish." And he's the one who lied about attending a prestigious prep school in New York, about his mother's death being related to 9/11, and about knowing victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting. The irony of it all is that Rep. Santos says that he wants to be judged based on his actions. But what kind of actions can we expect from someone who's made a habit of lying and misleading the public? How can we trust anything that Rep. Santos says or does when he's shown that he has no respect for the truth? It's clear that Rep. Santos doesn't belong in Congress. He's a disgrace to the people of New York's 3rd Congressional District, and to the country as a whole. And it's high time that Republicans stopped making excuses for his lies and took a stand against this kind of dishonesty. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for Rep. Santos to resign, and they're absolutely right to do so. No one who lies and misleads the public deserves to hold public office, and it's time for Rep. Santos to do the right thing and step down. The American people deserve representatives who tell the truth and work for them, not for themselves. Rep. Santos has proven that he's not that kind of representative, and it's time for him to go. Republicans need to step up and get rid of Rep. Santos.
