Censoring solves nothing [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-13 I recently made a comment regarding the boomer generation. After posting this comment I was informed of a family emergency that left me preoccupied so I didn’t have a chance to see the large number of great comments to my comment that called out boomer’s for the mess their generation had sowed upon our nation. When I was able to reconnect with the world several days later, my email showed about a dozen replies that I was able to read (thankfully), but I was unable to respond to any of them as the post had been taken down by “ADMIN.” I was roasted by several people in wonderful and thoughtful ways. The people who responded had spent what I can only assume was an enormous amount of thought and emotions in crafting their replies. My comment was flippant and admittedly over-generalized but for myself it was cathartic. I’m ok with my comment being removed, but the cost of it’s removal was too high and penalized the readers who took the time to respond. I believe removing my post was an over-reaction because it removed their work as well. It’s easy to look at the actions of the Republican Governor Gov DeSantis’ censorship and react with anger and disappointment because he’s removing from public discourse the voices and memories of generations from future generations. It’s disappointing that an ADMIN from DailyKos would behave in a similar manner. Again my post was rude, but removing my post also removed some great posts filled with educational experiences of Boomers “fighting the good fight.” When we engage in the same actions that we also condemn in others exposes us as hypocritical in our justified reactions to true censorship. If ADMIN decides if a comment should censored, then also weigh the responses that will be eliminated.
