He didn’t talk, or apparently even think, about railroad bridges. YouTube doesn’t allow comments on their shorts, and I am pulling-my-hair-out frustrated with the lackadaisical stupidity with which the West is “supporting” Ukraine, so I am responding here in the scant hope that someone who knows someone who knows someone responsible for foreign policy might see it and fucking think. Most governments move much of their military by rail; Russia more than most. Blow up a section of track, and yeah, compact gravel in the hole, lay new track over it, and you’re back in business in hours. Destroy a bridge and it will take months or even a couple of years to let contracts, move equipment to the site, round up materials and get it rebuilt. Destroy a bunch of bridges, and it might take Russia’s third-world economy years to put them all back into service. If our leaders had any fucking balls or brains we’d have begun arming Ukraine in 2014. We’d have gotten those Polish MiG 29s (?) to Ukraine a year ago, and they would already have all the F-16s and A-10s and Bradleys and Abrams and Leopards and ammunition they need to stomp Russia’s ass, and destroy so much of its military equipment that it won’t be a threat to any neighbor for a decade, if ever again. Sitting on our thumbs and whining “oh, Putin might nuke us” has cost Ukraine tens of thousands of lives. Now that we are finally growing the stones to get them the military equipment they need, we are still months out, getting them trained to use it, and getting it to them. Meanwhile Russia is beginning a new offensive, and more Ukrainians are going to die. I heard a retired American general—sorry, don’t remember which: anybody?--say last week that we know where Putin is every minute of every day. It is seven minutes by ICBM from a submarine in the Arctic ocean to Moscow. Putin is not stupid enough to nuke anyone. Get Ukraine what it needs to destroy every fucking bridge on every fucking railway leading to Ukraine, right fucking now. WAR OVER. Or at least it would buy us the time we need to do what we should have done a year, or eight years, ago: get Ukraine everything it needs to defend itself--and us--from Vladimir Putin’s aggression.
