Gun lobby, feigning concern for women, pushed no-background-gun checks, supports guns for abusers [1]

About 20 years ago, I attended a college debate on gun control, where the gun lobby stooge on stage (representing the “anti-gun control” position), claimed that background checks, required gun safety training w/ demonstrated knowledge of gun laws, and firearms registration were not only unnecessary, but also “anti-women”.

“Anti-women”? That’s because, according to the paid toady, such things were time-consuming and would deprive abused and battered women of “precious and critical moments of time” needed to quickly obtain a gun for protection against attacks from violent husbands/boyfriends. Gun control, according to the gun industry lobbyist, was therefore “sexist” and existed “for the purpose of protecting domestic abusers”.

I have a future diary in mind where I further discuss how the gun lobby has appropriated words and terms like “sexism”, “racism”, and “civil rights” as PR talking points to pimp its agenda, but for the moment, consider how the gun lobby and their in-the-pocket GOP prostitutes have advocated against background checks on the grounds of “protecting women” while simultaneously lobbying against red flag laws on the basis that such laws will “deprive” those same women’s domestic abusers of “due process rights”.

I wonder if the gun lobby’s rank-and-file supporters ever see the irony of the propaganda spoon-fed to them before the inevitable gun tragedy reaches their own lives.
