They are anti-labor. Please avoid them at all costs (no pun intended). That's true. I will stand in line or without a line waiting for the cashier to finish a break rather than use self check out. And saying people don't want to work ( in reference to a reply) cashier's were front line essential workers during the pandemic and now we're just back to getting dumped on. If a store truly wants to better my experience, they would put un-needed cashiers into the store to help customers. I am often asked to help find a product, reach an item, or explain how I use a product. By the time I am in line to pay, I am pretty much done with my shopping, but help while shopping would make my experience more enjoyable! Self check-out reduces the number of employees and increases the profits of the store. IOW they make us unpaid employees. I don’t and won’t use them. If the store need’s employees then they should hire employees. I do not and never have worked for free. This is pretty much how I have always felt about self-checkout, like, what’s next, I need to get my groceries off the truck by myself? Publix has self-check, but they always have lanes with cashiers open. Kroger often has no lanes open with cashiers. What if we refused to self-check? Walked out or just stood waiting for a lane to open? There was also one different sort of opinion that I read in the comment section: I worked at Home Depot for 30 years. When we got self checkout we actually had more employees than ever. Just because you don't see cashier's doesn't mean they are costing people jobs. I'm sure in some cases that might be true but in Depot's case those hours were being used in other areas of the store. I filed all that info under things that make me go hmm…. How about you? Do you use self-checkout?
