Putin Planning To Send "Little Green Men" To Occupy Moldova [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.', 'Backgroundurl Avatar_Large', 'Nickname', 'Joined', 'Created_At', 'Story Count', 'N_Stories', 'Comment Count', 'N_Comments', 'Popular Tags'] Date: 2023-02-13 Moldovian President Maia Sandu President Maia Sandu has warned that Russia has active plans to send “little green men” to infilrate Moldavia to stage a coup. On Friday she nominated Dorin Recean to the parliament for approval as the new Prime Minister, following the resignation of Natalia Gavrilița. Speaking in the capital Chisinau she said “The plan for the next period involves actions with the involvement of diversionists with military training, camouflaged in civilian clothes, who will undertake violent actions, attack some state buildings, and even take hostages,” Sandu told reporters at a briefing. “The purpose of these actions is to overthrow the constitutional order, to change the legitimate power from Chisinau to an illegitimate one,” Sandu said, “which would put our country at the disposal of Russia, in order to stop the European integration process.” She defiantly vowed: “The Kremlin’s attempts to bring violence to our country will not succeed.” It may not have been “accidental” that during an attack on Ukraine on February 10, Russian missiles traversed Moldova on their way to their targets. The move has strong echoes of next door Ukraine. Moldova is already a Candidate nation for EU entry and has Russian forces occupying the extreme East of the country in “Transnistria”, a break-away region on the border with Ukraine similar to its Donetsk and Luhansk “People’s Republics”. One initial objective of last year’s invasion was to establish a land bridge from Russia to Transnistria with the obvious purpose of staging a fake referendum for joining Russia. This is part of the grand overall design to establish the “Russkyi Mir” of Slavic and former USSR states. Former Prime Minister Gavrilita had cited the pressure caused by the effect of Russia’s war on Ukraine as a reason for her resignation. The country has suffered 20%+ inflation and has had regular electricity blackouts as it gets power from Ukraine. Fuel prices have skyrocketed after Russian invasion. The EU had stepped in to provide aid to reduce gas and electricity prices when demonstrations threatened to destabilise the country. As this suggests, Moldova is a tiny country and one of, if not the, poorest nation in Europe. It certainly does not have the armed forces to resist like Ukraine, some of whose refugees it hosts. It may also be notable that last Friday Russia used a uncrewed water vehicle (drone) to attack a bridge in Ukraine which provides a vital link from Odessa to Moldova and Romania. Russian withdrawal from Transnistria must be a condition of any post-war settlement to ease sanctions on Russia. May the people of Moldova have peace. Poporul moldovean să aibă pace. Slavă Moldovei!
